Train Them Up
Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.
As mothers we have a mandate from heaven to train up our sweet little ones in the way they should go. Well what way is that? God’s way! We should constantly be pointing out kids back to Christ.
In everything they do they should see the blessings of God whether that’s listening and obeying you, cleaning their rooms, playing and sharing with a friend or siblings, whatever!
Kids aren’t just born knowing how to do these things they have to be trained to do so. That requires moms and dads to sit down and think about what values and rules are important in running their family. Then intentionally seek time to train their children.
I remember operating as a reactive parent and addressing issues as they arose and that’s far from what “training” consists of. Training means being a proactive parent and having daily lessons on the way the child should go before and as needed.
In our family we’ve created a schedule and I sit with my kids at breakfast and discuss our family ways. They need to be taught on a child’s level what certain rules mean and how we will inspect their hearts, minds, and behaviors to make sure they are truly following through.
Child training can be difficult and repetitive and it’s easy to lose your cool most days, especially when et with opposition and defiance. But remember your child has to venture out into the world one day and we have but a season to get them ready. Tap back into that strength we discussed yesterday and get to work!
